KIRKUS REVIEW

Is she Stephanie Martin, art student in 1976, or Sidonie Laveau, eldest daughter of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, who along with younger Sister, DÉdÉ, wonders ""Why do we have to be so different from other people?"" Anyone not already so bored by this plot that he turns away with a groan, will be sure to get his money's worth from the answer as Sidonie/Stephanie tries to best Marie Laveau at her own game, sees a reluctant bride turned into a ""zombi,"" and saves a pair of slaves from the auction block. A thick concoction of ghosts and gris-gris, prescribed for those who haven't the power to resist.
