KNIGHT OF THE WILDERNESS: The Story of Alexander Mackenate

A top biography illustrated by Kreigh Collins. Alexander's family came from Scotland and settled in central New York, where in 1778 they were in constant danger because of their Loyalist feelings. For this reason the boy's aunts rushed him off to Montreal where he soon get into the fur business as a clerk. Unusuallyable, honest and imaginative, he was sent to Detrolt by the KY Company because the North West and Bay Companies were so powerful elsewhere. The young man had a sound and urge to discover new territory which lead to expeditions on which he explored the and eventually took the extraordinary trip the continent to the Pacific. He wrote up his adventures in and died in 1820. The book is full of adventure, well written, has a good pace and plenty of conversation so that the pages look invilling.
