by Bishop Fulton J. Sheen ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 20, 1958
In the present volume, Bishop Sheen undertakes to tell a continuous story of the life of Christ, from the Annunciation to the Ascension and the beginnings of the Church at Pentecost, following closely the sequence and account to be found in the Gospels, but using his own literary gifts to enliven the narration for the average public and his own reflections and sacred and profane learning to elucidate its meaning, move the heart and counter anti-religious doubts and objections. The Bishop's ability to tell a story and to teach religious and moral truths with the help of vivid similes and illustrations is well known, as is also his ability to engender enthusiasm, for his subject in his readers. Here again he uses all the talents at his command, but let it be said that appropriately in this instance he has not employed certain dubious techniques of rhetoric, and exaggerated sentiment with which he sometimes ""over-popularizes"" his to a subject.
