THE B BOOK

What to say about an elaborate picture book for adults? The B Book has credits in the back, at the top of which reads ""written and directed by Brian Randall."" There's also a crew, a cast, and people responsible for sets and design. Animation and staged photography make the story of B something to look at, with some pages resembling the photographs of Cindy Sherman and others, intentionally, like comic-book spreads of the Nuremberg rallies. A little girl named B has dreams of capitalist power and grandeur that make her a mixture of Richie Rich and the Wicked Witch of the West. The story is a simple morality tale, told in a children's-book text, of how B learns that her dreams will lead her into error and gains some modest family values. Campy.
