Primarily an excellent source of reference for young people, this book also has a browsing/circulation potential and the 100 illustrations (not seen here) by Lorence F. Bjorklund promise a handsome book. The various types of American forts, from the rude log barricades to the enormous defenses of today, are described in digest entries under a state-by-state geographical arrangement that employs bold face capitals for the easy location of information within the text. There is also a very complete glossary of the military/architectural/engineering terms special to fortification.
