By gosh, it really is the very same ""ancient tale"" put into imperishable picture-book form by Claire Huchet Bishop and Kurt Wiese as The Five Chinese Brothers. This time around we have an additional sibling, some slight differences in detail, a flat, tin-ear text, stiff scissor-cut illustrations in black-and-red, and virtually no excitement, suspense, or humor. Can it be that somebody just doesn't know the Bishop-Wiese all-time child-pleaser?
