A melodrama which makes the best use of this medium, shrouds an old theme in gothic horror, and tells the story of Katinka Jones, newspaper editor of a correspondence column, who goes to Wales in search of one of her readers- Amista- not heard from since her marriage to a Mr. Carlyon. Once in Carlyon's house, Katinka finds that Amista's identity is denied, and while she herself is susceptible to Carlyon's melancholic charm, she is also surrounded by doubt and suspicion- the mutilation of the woman he keeps in hiding, the suicide or is it murder that follows- and the final dreadful disillusion.... Fascinatingly frightful if you let yourself go.
