Up another Colorado crick (Sheepshank, Colorado--1889) with young Eli, livery hand, at the time that thirty thousand dollars worth of gold bullion is stolen from the Cherry Mine--""illegal coinpicking."" Eli lends himself out as ""prentice"" to the Indian Tracker Byrd, and together they join the ""posseying"" for the culprits when two innocent men are killed. But Eli's troubles really begin when he meets Miss Cherry Bastion, the mine owner's daughter who gets the best of him, her father and the gold. . . . Small storytelling with a cheerful twang, a little grit and a little spit, for those that enjoyed On a Road to Many a Wonder (1974).
