This is one of Desmond Bagley's high-pressurized if not peremptory action stories filled with chancy risks (from heroin down to heads or tails), guns find gelignite. The death of a young girl in-London brings Dr. Nick Warren, incorruptible if impotent, in contact with the father who had neglected her. Warren had prescribed for her habit. At first vengeful and vindictive, her father, a wealthy film producer, subsidizes Warren's attempt to put a stop to the drug's infiltration from the Middle East and having recruited some other helpers, the team goes Land-Rovering through Kurdistan right to the source--a consignment of 2000 pounds. As always, the games Mr. Bagley plays are inventive as well as lethal and for those in search of a story qua story, it's a mandatory trip.
