Another very hot and successful notion in which Joe Loomis and Tom Garrity, who are New York City policemen and neighbors, decide they would like a cool million each -- something they could steal and disappear with. Something which could not possibly incriminate them. Having sold their ""off-the-wall"" idea to a Mafia man, Vigano, they take over a brokerage firm and secure -- during the astronaut parade -- some ten million in bearer bonds which they proceed to shred into confetti which joins the litter on the streets. They then execute the transfer with Vigano and his men (cash for paper, worthless paper) in a siren shrill finale. Mr. Westlake has not lost his very genuine likable touch -- PAY TO BEARER a nerve-end entertainment.
