KIRKUS REVIEW

Closeup of a killer, which sustains a hallmark of precision and suspense in the self-portrait of Dix Steele, the girl in England he had killed and couldn't forget, the release he found in killing again- and in Laurel, and the teasing fascination of his friendship with Brub, police detective. Here is the deterioration of his nerveless assurance when Laurel leaves him, of his skill- as he kills too often -- too fast, of his mind as the memory of Brucie haunts him with greater intensity,- to the final breakdown... Hard, holding, this is one of her best.
