RAVENSCROFT

Dorothy Eden's new story is again a firmly bodiced period piece in which the stays are predictably supporting the genre, namely distressed damsels flouncing through danger and flirting with romance. This time it's Lally, a vaporous sort, and her sister Bella, more self-sufficient, who are stranded in London in the hands of a predatory Mrs. Proudfoot and her son. They traffic in flesh (young mothers and newborn infants). The girls when rescued by one Guy Raven become his protegees and witnesses. Even so scandal ensues so that he is forced to marry one of them. But Bella is alone on her nuptial night and for some time to come until the original offenders are apprehended and Guy comes to his now awakened senses.... Miss Eden governesses her story well along guessable lines.
