Young Dinah, whose fervent Irish family disapprove of her love for an English soldier, is kidnapped by her brother and taken to America, where she finds a champion in Morry Bay, who brings her to his mother. Dinah is installed as companion to little Dorry, and Charleston society learns to accept her. But Mel, who would marry Morry after she had had her fun with all other beaux, uses Dinah as a whipping boy, turns any incident concerning her into scandal. With the coming of the war, Mel goes so far as to brand Dinah a traitor and when her scurrilities are disclosed, and Dinah is freed of her promise to the English soldier, Morry is at last awake to his love for the Irish girl. Contrived but compatible historical romancing, this is for the popular market.
