KIRKUS REVIEW

Paul Marlow of Earth has become Poul Mer Lo of Baya Nor and the price is absolute loneliness. Only (?) survivor of a light years star trek, he is forced into the poetic yet primitive society which functions under the total rule of a God-king who maintains power for only one year before willingly being dispatched to a higher grace. Mr. Cooper has imaginative charm and his portrait of an alien culture and a man trying to deal with it is more than substantial speculative fiction.
