LUSTROUS HEROINE

A Cinderella theme with a Chinese girl of the Middle Kingdom for a heroine, passing the patient Griselda tests to win her way from rags to riches. Chinese life before the contact of western civilization, in full detail. Begins -- as does The Good Earth, with peasant farm life, but the heroine runs away when famine and flood take her family, and becomes the most glamorous of the Sing-Sing girls, and eventually to marriage with a Viceroy. Background and mental outlook foreign.
