KIRKUS REVIEW

John could not find the ball he had lost in his own back yard. Mother helped him to look. Before the ball was found after dinner, John, Mother and Father had found other interesting living things -- a garter snake, robins, a spider's web, a rabbit and flowers. This qualifies more as practice in reading than as a self-sufficient story.
