This is an exquisite thing, almost as good as Bambi. Perhaps if I had read it first, I should have liked it just as well, though in retrospect Bambi seems to have more of the philosophical side, and this more of the close to nature side. A fascinating story of a young squirrel's first year of life, the round of the seasons, the life that goes on, unrealized by humans, and the contact with very young of the human species, while still there is an affinity with nature unsoiled.
