LANCER AT LARGE

Lives of a Bengal Lancer plied up a substantial sale. The film version added to its popular laurels. This successor has a somewhat different appeal, -- Though the Bengal Lancer rides again, the adventure element is almost wholly lacking. Those who read the earlier book for its mysticism and philosophy will find this even more to their taste. Those who are interested in the reforms of modern India, -- social, educational, administrative, will consider this an important book. But primarily, it is a portrayal of the essentially mystic life of the Hindus, their contribution to the ccult world. The ""pageant of religious history"" and the minutiae of the various schools of oriental mysticism -- legend, belief and current practice -- reveal a thorough understanding of Indian cults. Not for wide sales, but important.
