THE BIG RAIN

When too much rain floods her little town, Jeanne Marie must quickly get Grandmother and all the animals to safety. Only Madelon the duck enjoys the water, and it is her quacking that brings the rescuers. The water recedes and alas, Cabrette the goat has a cold and all the children must help clean the village, but it matters not, for vive le gai soleil! The atmosphere of the little French village imparts itself through names, and French phrases, but especially through the author's painted childlike illustrations in four appealing colors.
