This one's about the non-representational art game (nothing is what it seems to be) in which Bert Kemp, who knows about old firearms, agrees to accompany (cf. smuggle) a collection to Switzerland for a wealthy widow. After Paris, his Cezanne disappears; but there's a Van Gogh in Holland, a Durer in Venice, and a Titian which turns out to be a Giorgione in Hungary. And a girl, and guns, and two dead men. All very lively and appropriately picturesque.
