Another fine and accurate story of life in the early days of the colonies. This one takes place in 1693-4 in Kennebec, Boston and finally Albany. The young heroine Elsbeth had been brought up as an Indian captive and when this story takes place she is seventeen, liberated and fearless. She and a mere handful of women and children, wounded, fight off an Indian attack. Later she goes to Boston -- then a town of seven thousand -- in order to wait for the man she plans to marry, Onoto, a brave person with great ability in fighting and handling the savages. In this book there is plenty of fighting, a fine sea voyage from Maine down to Massachusetts, a splendid picture of the modes and manners of a colonist city and finally a trip across into New York.
