A heartbreaking but very potent little story with a message to parents and teachers. Johnny Lee's father thought him a s because he did not play boys' games; his mother was too busy with the baby to notice his loneliness; and his teacher constantly nagged at his shortcomings. Johnny often came to the verge of finding adult friends, but he runs away at last, stopping only to buy the people he hoped could like him Christmas presents. He is brought home by an understanding adult to face his terrified, self-accusing family and teachers. A very real little boy in an all-too-prevalent situation.
