KIRKUS REVIEW

Well-written, readable tale of one of theatre's favorite sons. Miss Malvern has written a sympathetic, humorous story of his parents' uphill fight, of Joo's appearance on the stage at an early age, of his loss of his father and the struggle of mother and son to keep things going. Stories of traveling from town to town, one night stands, painting own scenery, resuscitating costumes and props rain-soaked. Then success-and Joseph in his famous Rip Van Winkle role. The story is highlight with names famous in stage history,-Booth, Drew, Henry Irving, etc.
