KIRKUS REVIEW

Cindy Smith started out at the bottom of the pecking order in her new first grade class. The big social breakthrough came when her teacher announced that blue was her favorite color--a unique coincidence...this was also Cindy's favorite. So Cindy made a big blue valentine for her teacher, which was so amazing that not only did her teacher assure Cindy that she loved her, but the most popular girl in the class became her friend. There's not much here to raise junior pulse rates. The story even comes with instructions for copying Cindy's chef d'oeuvre, which is less elaborate than most valentines produced by first graders. Despite the class designation, the print and vocabulary will require second grade reading skills.
