ALLIGATORS AND CROCODILES

Both the alligator's condition and our knowledge of the animal have changed considerably since Zim's first, 1952 edition, and without making a point of the new information this widely revised and newly illustrated version brings readers up to date on its habits and survival status. For readers who aren't ready for the more extensive coverage now widely available, Zim surveys crocodilians in general and particular alligators, crocodiles, and other species with his usual brisk clarity; and Zallinger's drawings are attractively functional, though without the impact of the photos that pick up Gross' similar Alligators and Other Crocodilians (1978).
