KIRKUS REVIEW

The winner of the 1960 Grand Prix de la Litterature Policiere in France and awarded the publisher's Inner Sanctum Mystery Award for 1961-2, this novel of crime is in the form of documents which reveal the personalities of those involved, from the day Prof. Canova takes out insurance in 1923, through the events that led his secretary, Beatrice, to marry the second Mme. Canova's lover. Knowledge of murder for inheritance give her a dangerous weapon which she uses with malice to the end that she and Mme. Canova are open enemies -- each with a dubious success. Spare and precise this has individuality and distinction.
