Lucky Santangelo (""wild jet hair, olive skin and dark eyes full of drama"") goes to Hollywood. Keeping the secret from her adored husband, Lennie (""tall and lanky, with dirty-blond hair and ocean-green eyes. . .good-looking in an edgy offhand way""), Lucky spears herself a film studio, while characters from Lucky's other starring vehicles (Chances, 1981; Lucky, 1985) surface, as well as a batch of new slimes and good guys--but, mere sprouts or ancient, they're all randy as ever. Abe Panther--old as the Hollywood hills (and with a live-in mistress)--decides to sell Panther Studios, which has been making sexploitation flicks (and money), to Lucky. The idea is not only to bring Panther back to former glory but also to get rid of his executive son-in-law. Before the contract's signed, however, Lucky must pull a drab wig over that wild jet hair, then become a dowdy secretary for six weeks in order to sweep up the studio dirt, zeroing in especially on sleazy son-in-law Mickey. While Lucky's incognito, loves matches and mismatches flare all around. Venus Maria (""a superstar, a cult figure, an icon""), who's really a solid sort, is deeply in love with Martin, a real Trumptation from New York, whose wife Deena aims to hang on to him. Meanwhile, two wives creep up on two mistresses, and teen-age heiress Brigitte (daughter of Lucky's second husband and Lennie's former wife) is seen with the boy who's flirting with Deena--and it's all there in an exposÉ that runs in the supermart mags. Then Lucky and Lennie fall out, and finally--after umpteen more pages and vibrating bedsprings--Deena is on her way to California with a gun; likewise, a hood of a crime boss (black silk shirt and white tie) is prowling up to Lucky. Reliable as a cheesy old teen fantasy--sex, power, designer duds, and talking dirty.
