The thing little Siamese Nu Dang loves best in the world is his elaborate orange and red kite. And when his kite slips from his hands on a windy day, it is a forlorn Nu Dang who wanders up the sleepy river asking here and there if anyone has found it. The barge vendors answer ""No"" as do the merchants, the children playing along the river banks, the young priests, and even the water buffalo. How Nu Dang's kite comes home makes up the core of this intense story which, illustrated in the beautifully stylized colored pictures of the author, a resident of Thailand, forms a tapestry of the elaborate fabric of Siamese river life.
