MINERVA LOUISE

Minerva Louise is a chicken who loves the house. She hops in the window, tries out various nesting places, and misinterprets everything, to hilarious effect: the cat is a friendly cow, the tricycle a tractor. But there's no one to play with except the bathtub duck, who is in too big a puddle. So out she goes, only to come back and choose the most inappropriate nest of all--a pie! This first book won the Dutton Picture Book Competition and it's easy to see why: Stoeke's cheerful, curious, insouciant hen is delightfully portrayed in simple, bold illustrations that should be perfect for preschool story time.
