KIRKUS REVIEW

The Buttons buy a new watchdog, then another and another and another, bemuse their own dachshund and their two cats Sunflower and Sadie are too friendly to be good protection. And one after another, as they learn from the old pets not to attack the milkman, laundryman, and egg woman, the ferocious new dogs Savage, Fury, Fire Eater, and Monster become friendly too. So that when a real burglar does intrude, the five dogs and two cats send him running for his life in response to their boisterous, enthusiastic welcome. An ordinary story, not without possibilities--but, despite all those flying dogs and knocked-down visitors, Duvoisin just doesn't come through with the needed boost.
