LE QUART D'HEURE D'ANIBAL BUMBO: ""The Quarter of An Hour of Hannibal Bumbo

The title is rather indicative of the novel, a picaresque, unconvincing melodrama played out against the contemporary Mexican scene. Bumbo is a soldier of fortune, who, while passing through a small village on his way to enlist in a rebel army, spends the night with the local belle who commits suicide the next day. He is haunted by the affair, the past of the girl, her weakling fiancÉ and the village banker who represents the villain. He goes on to join his forces, is the commander of a regiment, and returns to the town to avenge the death of the girl. Of its kind, moderately entertaining.
