A British geophysical expedition of 11 men is cut off by some heavy weather in Greenland. When their hut burned, their radio went too. Tom fife, committed to their rescue, finds the site of the disaster, but not the men, who have moved on in an effort to reach the coast. The search has political repercussions, since the Russians misinterpret the objectives of the expedition, bringing about an official veto of further rescue operations. With increasing casualties, the party does eventually get through. A sterling and stoic adventure.
