KIRKUS REVIEW

A rare species of lichen (only obtainable in Manchuria) proves to have antiaging properties as discovered by biochemist Francis Saxover, and independently by his young pupil, Diana Brackley. While Francis limits its application to the members of his family, Diana dispenses it unknown to her clientele at a fashionable beauty salon while hoping to improve the intellectual lot of womankind. Sooner or later, however, her exposure leads from attacks in the press to those of a more violent nature and.... Not quite on a par with The Day of the Triffids or The Midwich Cuckoos, still (the late) John Wyndham was an attractive impresario of ideas and the theme retains its ageless allure.
