PE NNY-WISE, FUN-FOOLISH

A lifeless, witless fable about frugal Ostrich who is always clipping giveaway coupons from the Jungle Journal and who refuses to go to the carnival which charges admission. But when she finds a special coupon for the carnival, she has a good time there with her friend Elephant; and on the way home he admits that he had slipped her the coupon, having paid her admission in advance, in order to make her realize that ""sometimes spending money is worthwhile."" And sometimes it isn't--especially on a story that is nothing but a moral, with a moral that represents something less than elemental wisdom to start with and is undercut in any case by the fact that Ostrich is saving her money so that she and Elephant can visit America. And where's the fun?.
