THE SIGNAL NET

Andler, who set a previous timber plot mystery, The Stolen Spruce, (1952-p.411) in the Maine woods, holds to a similar theme and scene here, but an unfortunate comic book level of brutality and simplicity makes this a bad bet for its age level. Tom and Mark are no sooner at their Uncle's New Hampshire farm for the summer when they discover some smugglers who are importing heroin from Canada. The boys get jobs with a U.S. Coast and Geodetic surveying team that is remapping the district, and the chase is on. Instrument bearings, tracking the wilds, and capture lead to the apprehension of their enemies and a victory for the law.
