THE LEGEND OF THE CHRISTMAS ROSE

It was a fortunate choice, to include this favorite of Selma Lagerlof's stories in this collection. It is the story of the miraculous garden which faith envisioned each Christmas in the Robbera' Forest, and of how the Abbot Hans, who died for his faith and his vision, was immortalized in a flower which came back each Christmastide. A story in which the mundane and the holy are set in contrast, and in which even the most materialistic are enriched by contact with the spirit of Christ.
