by Leonard Woolf ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 26, 1939
Here's a book that is out-dated before it is published, for Woolf charges civilization as accepting Germany's conduct, he exalts Stalin for demonstrating the Greek mode of life and for keeping himself apart from the German masters. But -- overlooking, if one can, his premises and his conclusions, there still remains an interesting anatomy of civilization, a stimulating theoretical discussion, paralleling the two Greek ways of life with their demagogues and today's set-ups and leaders. Power, ideas, and economics -- these determine the direction of civilization.
