For a big bit of friendly fantasy Lynd Ward dresses an old theme- a bother- some overgrown pet- with new life and some side splitting humor. Mountain farmboy Johnny wants a prize bearskin and finds a cub instead. At home when the maple sugar eating and chicken scaring habits of the grown bear increase, Johnny must take him away to shoot him but fortunately they fall into a life saving trap set by a zoo out-fit. A pat, two- lines-a-page text brings smiles but it is Mr. Ward's large soft black drawings of anxious Johnny and an imposing, bewildered hulk of bruin that really rouse the laughs.
