THE CRUISE OF A DEATHTIME

Babson (Bejeweled Death, etc.) is at her most antic in this tale of a Love Boat gone berserk. The Empress Josephine, cruising from Miami to the Caribbean's Nhumbala, is losing more passengers and crew every day, starting with no-show Assistant Purser Waring. By ones, twos, threes, fours, and even fives, they're poisoned, stilettoed, shot, and strangled--all in aid of a scheme to heist the passengers' valuables. . . with complications from a plot to overthrow Nhumbala's dictator. Captain Falcon, with a series of late-night burials at sea, manages an appearance of normalcy for a while--but he can't stop the carnage. So doughty Mrs. Anson-Pryce, one of Babson's many middle-aged heroines, must go into sleuthing action--with some help from D. D. Smithers, the ship's friendly drunk. An amiable trifle at best, for those willing to suspend all notions of reality whatsoever.
