by Marilyn Tolhurst ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 1, 1991
An entertaining reversal of the story of Goldilocks. The Blairs are people; ""Somebody"" is a bear. Creative modernizations include changes (""This food is too dry,"" says Somebody, checking out the cereal box, but it's ""too noisy"" with mill in it; baby food in ajar is best) and additions (thirsty, he finds that ""This rain [the shower] is too hot"" and ""This pond [the toilet] is too small""). Baby Blair often gets the comical last word: ""It's a burglar. . .it's a monster,"" opine his parents; ""Issa big teddy bear,"" he points out, sensibly enough: Somebody is sound asleep, cuddling Baby Blair's teddy. Abel's good-humored, cartoonlike illustrations sit comfortably in the ample white space of this generously sized book and are the perfect accompaniment to Tolhurst's charming update.
