by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 26, 1979
Tired of himself and his usual lonely meal of mashed potatoes, Emery Raccoon invites 328 guests to lunch. With much preparation on Emery's part it turns out to be a delightful party, but when Emery tries to get someone to pass the ketchup he realizes that no one is paying him the slightest attention--so poor Emery ends up eating alone, conversing with himself in the manner of Mr. Flood. The party ends with all the guests swarming appreciatively around their host, but meanwhile Emery Raccoon has found his best friend: Emery Raccoon. Szekeres pictures a happy party, with all those cute dressed-up guests from elephants to ladybugs, and Sharmat gives Emery a predicament that kids will relate to. Whether they'll be convinced by the solution is another question.
