An original idea, with topical implications, which moves along at a smart pace through the tart, cynical, urbane dialog rather than the action. Limited in sales appeal to those who like this sort of witty fantasy, with a bit of a moral tucked behind the theme. The story of Chance Winter, caught in the mesh of self hate. His contempt for himself is reflected in his contempt for humanity, whom he tries to lead by the nose, to trick, to debase. He forms a secret circle of anarchist-killers, responsible for the evil forces at large in the world. Cloud, sophisticated American, in love with Mary Winter, tells the story of this anti-Christ. It is arresting in a sense, with a certain suspense and mystification.
