by Mignon G. Eberhart ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 17, 1953
Grateful, dependent Sarah Travers accepts her husband's proposition to have Jake Dixon impersonate him, to cover up his absence on an ex officio top secret assignment. Their arrival from California is attended with mysterious incidents at the Travers' home on the lake and word of Travers' murder in California puts Sarah and Jake in trouble with the local police. When Travers turns up, worse is to follow, other murders are disclosed and Sarah finds Jake the man for her trust and love. Adroit manipulation here.
