MR. MERGATROID

Mr. Mergatroid is a creature who comes to eleven-year-old Richard, an American boy living in London with his student father. Lonely and disgruntled, Richard welcomes his invisible helper who introduces him to the world of magic and wizards and puts all the sorcery at his command into the effort of making friends for Richard. And then, having imbued in Richard the inner capacity for friendship, Mr. Mergatroid departs. A cousin to the Wizard of Oz, Mr. Mergatroid is as charming as he is facile. An old fashioned book, written with charm and imagination. Boys and girls will do well to meet Mr. Mergatroid.
