This is certainly a Hawthorne season. Here is the fourth, to our knowledge, Hawthorne item, and they should help sell each other. Why not try a joint display of this with Randall Stewart's Nathaniel Hawthorne (Yale), Cantwell's Nathaniel Hawthorne, The American Years and Viking's Portable Hawthorne.... This volume is edited by a Professor at the University of Toronto, who, in his introduction, covers the genesis and history of The Scarlet Letter along with a moral and literary evaluation. In addition to the text of The Scarlet Letter, this volume includes Hawthorne's prefaces and eight of his short stories and sketches. Of particular interest to students of the fiction form is the preface to The House of the Seven Gables, which gives Hawthorne's theory of the novel. A University Classic.
