SIR WALTER SCOTT

Who can say to Waverley--to ""bonnic Broom,""""wee poppies,"" ruined castles and lost battlefields, to Highland lays and Border ballads--or to the magnificent master of Abbotsford, the reluctant lion of London society, the scrivener struggling to pay off his debts. It's all sentiment and pathos with a Scottish burr and ""a wonderful exhilaration about it all"" but not balanced biography and definitely not for boys.
