Paid and played for a sucker, California Mark Preston, in spite of his exorbitant prices as a private eye, gets tired of being the patsy in a case of paternity used for blackmail, assorted gambling, and a political rig that makes the county blind to legal offenses. A dubious suicide linked to a murder, and Preston is ready to shake the shake-downs and stop the sucker show. He does. And who cares?
