TERROR AND DECORUM

This little volume of vivid and original poems is by Peter Viereck, instructor at Smith, winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship and occasional critic for the New York Times Book Review. Most of these poems refer to war experiences, but are filtered through a strong, academic background which lends depth without taking from their freshness. ""Kilroy"" is perhaps the best example of Viereck's feeling, mordant humor and keen culture. He has already published some critical prose, and though many of these verses have appeared in the better periodicals, this is the first collected volume of his verse. A new poet- who bears watching.
