by Peter Weiss ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 20, 1966
Peter Weiss' new play in production here this fall a season after his stunning Marat/Sade and after twenty simultaneous productions in Germany, one in Sweden directed by Ingmar Bergman, concerns the 1964-65 Auschwitz trial before a German court in Frankfurt. Eric Bentley's comment is reliable indication of the pull of the playwright and his work: ""The 1960's have seen the center of gravity of world theater move back to where it has not been since the 1920's--Germany. Among the group of playwrights responsible for this change, none is more notable than Peter Weiss."" He demands attention.
