A PUPPY FOR KEEPS

Good primer material with reasonable attention to vocabulary for beginning readers (second grade, perhaps) and more content than the usual run-of-the-mill. The setting is prairie dog country (flexible enough but roughly the southwest). David wanted a puppy for his very own and this is the story of the unusual choice of a mother dog for a place to raise her family which gave him his wish. Rather crude, sprawly line drawings by Kurt Wiese on every page.
